Baylor to Host Basketball Camps Beginning June 22

June 17, 1997

Baylor University will host the 1997 Harry Miller Baylor Bear Basketball Camps beginning June 22, which will consist of three overnight camps and a day camp. Between 100 and 240 students are expected to attend each camp.
Boys ages 8-18 with at least one year of high school eligibility remaining in the fall of 1997 can attend.
Overnight camps will be held June 22-26, July 6-10 and July 13-17. The day camp will be held July 21-25. Tuition for overnight campers is $295. The commuter fee is $220 and the day camp fee is $90. Fees include individual and team instruction by coaches from Baylor and top high school programs in Texas. The fees also cover room and board. Campers will stay in Baylor residence halls and will eat in an on-campus dining facility.
Activities include contests, individual and team competition, all-star games, game films and afternoon recreation. Both overnight and day campers will receive a camp T-shirt and a regulation basketball.
The camp will be led by Harry Miller, Baylor's men's basketball head coach. Miller, who began his coaching career in 1974, has rebuilt both high school and college teams and has led them to district, area and regional quarterfinal championships. He has been named coach of the year seven times and has coached in both the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game and the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game. Miller has served as president of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, the largest basketball organization in the world. In 1989 he was the first coach to serve on the UIL State Executive Council. He started the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Camp, which has grown to the largest in the country with more than 3,000 students each year.
Miller was named the head coach for Baylor in 1994. In the 1996-97 season, he led the Baylor Bears to an 18-12 record.
Registration for the overnight camps will be held from 1-3 p.m. on the first day of each camp at the Ferrell Center. Registration for the day camp will be from 7-8 a.m. on Monday, July 21.
