Baylor to Host Three Sonja Hogg Basketball Camps

May 30, 1997

Baylor University will host three Sonja Hogg Lady Bear Basketball Schools June 8-12, June 15-19 and June 29-July 3.
The school is open to students entering grades 6-12 in the fall of 1997. Students will have the opportunity to gain experience from several of the best women's high school and college coaches from throughout Texas and the United States. Also, the Lady Bears will take part in all activities.
The camp director is Sonja Hogg, who is a nationally-recognized high school and collegiate coach. She coached for 11 years at Louisiana Tech and molded the team from scratch into two-time national champions. Hogg was named the head coach of the Lady Bears in 1994 after a nationwide search. Since then, her coaching has helped the team break home attendance records.
Some of the planned activities at the basketball schools are individualized instruction, daily 3-on-3 tourneys, position play, free-throw contests, league play and fundamental skills instruction.
Also planned are nightly fellowship times that will be led by the Lady Bears with skits, songs and basketball films.
On the final day of each camp, league standing games will be played. Awards will be given at the closing ceremonies.
The school will discuss sports nutrition, weight training, off-season conditioning, drug use and abuse, injury prevention and treatment. The importance of scholastic achievement will also be emphasized.
Cost of the school is $295 per participant which includes instruction, room and board, a T-shirt, a Lady Bear championship basketball and a certificate. The commuter fee is $225. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required because of limited enrollment. Meals will be served from the Baylor dining halls. Commuters will be provided lunch and dinner.
