May 8, 1997

WACO, Texas - The Baylor University Alumni Association will hold a groundbreaking for the expansion and renovation of the Hughes-Dillard Alumni Center at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at 1212 South University Parks Dr.
The $2.5 million project not only will renovate the existing structure but also will add approximately 3,000 square feet to the center. The construction completion date is slated for August 1998.
"This marks the beginning of the expansion and renovation," said Paula Tanner, associate director of communication for the Alumni Association and editor of The Baylor Line. "We have raised nearly $2 million from gifts from alumni and friends of Baylor, including a $1 million gift from an anonymous donor. Our goal is to be debt free at the completion of the project."
In addition to offices and meeting rooms, the expanded center will feature a state-of-the-art media center, a gallery area showcasing artwork by university alumni, a central atrium and a retired faculty reading room.
