WACO, Texas (Jan. 22, 2016) – The final performance of Baylor University's 2015-2016 Distinguished Artist Series will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, with its final guest, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS). The CMS's co-artistic director, pianist Wu Han, will perform in Roxy Grove Hall with a string quintet.
CMS is one of 11 constituents of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the largest performing arts complex in the world. Other Lincoln Center constituents include the New York Philharmonic, the New York City Ballet and the Metropolitan Opera. Within Lincoln Center, CMS calls Alice Tully Hall home, one of the most esteemed halls in the world for chamber music.
With Wu Han, CMS's Baylor University appearance will feature violinists Benjamin Beilman, Kristin Lee and Sean Lee, violist Richard O'Neill and cellist Nicholas Canellakis.
"These six world-class musicians present a program called 'Virtuosity,' with dazzling music for piano and strings by Mozart, Schubert and Mendelssohn," said Richard Veit, concert and promotion manager for the Baylor School of Music. "Their concert combines the intensity of extraordinary ensemble playing with the virtuosity of the soloist."
The Distinguished Artist Series is the School of Music's premier set of guest artist events, usually offering three or four concerts each year.
"This series brings to campus some of the world's greatest musicians, providing Baylor students and the surrounding community with the convenience of enjoying brilliant performances without having to travel to Dallas, Austin or Houston, and at a fraction of the ticket cost," Veit said.
Tickets are available online at baylor.edu/music, or in person at the School of Music box office in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. Tickets for Baylor students, faculty, staff and senior citizens are $10, and general admission tickets are $15.
Roxy Grove Hall is located next to Waco Hall, at 624 Speight Ave.
