WACO, Texas (Sept. 22, 2015) – The department of environmental science in Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences will host a lecture on the effects of nano-materials at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, in the Baylor Sciences Building Room A.108.
Christie Sayes, Ph.D., an associate professor of environmental science, will present a lecture titled “Nano-Environmental Health and Safety in Education and the Workforce.”
“Dr. Sayes will be evaluating the adverse and beneficial effects of nano-materials, specifically focusing on inhalational routes of exposure,” said George Cobb, Ph.D., chair of the department.
Sayes is a newer member of the department. Her research interests include environmental health and safety, with a focus on exposure. She has more than a decade of experience in the fields of nanotechnology and nanotoxicology. The goal of her research is to investigate the fate, transformation and biological effects of individual particles and particle systems.
“The public is encouraged to attend this lecture to gain a broader understanding of a class of chemical that is becoming more widespread in our environment,” Cobb said. “It is also a chance for Dr. Sayes to relay her fascinating research to the Baylor community for the first time.”
This lecture is part of a weekly seminar series hosted by the department of environmental science at 5 p.m. every Tuesday. Topics vary week by week.
