WACO, Texas (Jan. 5, 2015) – Baylor’s Mayborn Museum Complex will host Scholastic’s “The Magic School Bus Kicks Up a Storm” traveling exhibit Jan. 17-April 12, 2015.
Based on the popular television series for kids, the bilingual, hands-on exhibit will teach children and their families about the science of weather, including different types of weather and its characteristics and how to read natural world indicators to predict the weather. Guests will also learn how to use scientific measurement tools, such as thermometers and anemometers, and how to read maps and graphs like a meteorologist.
“We are always looking for exciting ways to bring science to children, families, parents and teachers,” said Ellie Caston, Ph.D., director of the Mayborn Museum Complex. “This exhibit presents us with a great opportunity to do so, and it’s going to be a whirlwind of fun for everyone.”
The exhibit will have three interactive components: Ms. Frizzle’s Classroom (the bus itself), a weather observatory and the Walkerville Weather Center, which will allow children to report the weather “live” from the “Frizzle News Network” studio or “Frizzle News Network Radio.”
Story time will be held on opening day of the exhibit, accompanied by a special appearance from Ms. Frizzle and Liz the lizard. Regular admission, which includes all of the museum and the exhibit, is $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and $5 for children. The exhibition is free to all museum members and college students with a valid student ID. A special price of $5 per person will be offered on opening day of the exhibit through Saturday, Jan. 19.
