January 17, 1997

WACO, Texas - Today on the campus of Baylor University, the Baylor Board of Regents and the Board of Trustees of the Baylor Health Care System met in joint session to consider future strategic options available to Baylor Health Care.
The Baylor University Board of Regents voted to pursue a due diligence examination of several strategic options available for the future of the Baylor Health Care System. In a report that had been commissioned by the Baylor University Board of Regents, six options were discussed focusing on two principal strategic options. Consolidation of the Baylor Health Care System with other non-profit systems in the Dallas area and the sale of the Baylor Health Care System to a for-profit health care corporation represented the principal options available to assure the continued mission of the Baylor Health Care System.
"We are committed to evaluating the opportunities to strengthen the Baylor Health Care System," said Randall Fields, Chair of the Baylor Board of Regents.
