by Richard Veit

Baylor University's two Jazz Ensembles will present a joint concert at 8 p.m. Thursday Nov. 21, in Jones Concert Hall. The performance will be led by Vern Sielert, director of jazz ensembles.
The program will open with Jazz Ensemble II playing a set of five pieces. Jerome Kern's familiar "All the Things You Are" will be heard in an arrangement by Lennie Niehaus. Then will come Don Menza's "Groovin' Hard," an arrangement by Dave Barduhn of Johnnie Green's "Body and Soul," Sammy Nestico's "Switch in Time" and finally "Cabeza de Carne" (or "Meathead") by Matt Harris.
Following intermission, Jazz Ensemble I will take the stage to present its portion of the concert, which will consist of "Love Beams" by Mark Taylor, "Midnight Run" by Bill Holman, "Walkin' About" by Thad Jones, "The Big Pea" by Jimmy Heath and "Harvey" by Dave Zoller.
Bringing the program to a close will be an arrangement by Paul Jennings of Chick Corea's evocative jazz piece "Spain."
The concert by Baylor's Jazz Ensemble I and Jazz Ensemble II is free and open to the public. For further information, call the Baylor School of Music at 755-3991.
