Ferdon Named Acting Journalism Chair at Baylor

WACO, Texas - Dr. Doug Ferdon, associate professor of journalism at Baylor University, has been named acting chair of the Department of Journalism, effectively immediately.
"I'm very pleased that Doug has accepted to be acting journalism chair," said Dr. Donald D. Schmeltekopf, provost and vice president for academic affairs. "He has the unanimous support of the journalism faculty and he'll do an excellent job while the search for a permanent chairman is being held."
Ferdon holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin, the University of Florida and the University of North Texas. He has been a faculty member in the Baylor journalism department since 1982.
Co-chairing the journalism chairman search committee are Charles Overby, a Baylor regent who is president and chief executive officer of the Freedom Forum in Arlington, Va., and Dr. Michael Korpi, professor and director of telecommunications at Baylor.
Other members of the committee include Cynthia Baker, a graduate student in the journalism department; Jerrie Callan, lecturer in English at Baylor; Dave Campbell, editor of The Baylor Insider; Toby Druin, editor of The Baptist Standard; Henry Holcombe, a journalist with the Philadelphia Inquirer; Jack Loftis, executive vice president and editor of the Houston Chronicle; Dr. Lee Polk, professor and chair of communication studies at Baylor; Dr. Sara Stone, professor of journalism at Baylor; John Tisdale, lecturer in journalism at Baylor; Hal Wingo, former assistant managing editor of People magazine and now a member of the journalism faculty at the University of Richmond; and Ferdon.
