WACO, Texas (Feb. 18, 2014) - A Baylor tradition since 1953, All University Sing is one of the most anticipated events on campus for students, faculty and alumni each year. This year's event will feature seven-minute, Broadway-style acts from 19 student organizations, all competing for the highly coveted first, second or third place awards.
Cheryl Mathis, assistant director of campus programs at Baylor, said this year's show will be "dynamic."
"We have some really creative ideas in each of the acts," she said. "Some people are going a little outside of their comfort zone as far as what their organization traditionally does. The audience is in for something new and interesting, as always."
Each act has a team of Sing chairs, selected by their organization to construct the theme and everything that it entails, including props, costumes and backdrops.
Brooke Fader, a junior chair for Delta Delta Delta, said the development process has been almost a year long.
"We've really been working since Sing ended last year. We started brainstorming [theme ideas] a couple weeks after Sing ended and then all the planning and song selection happens over the summer," she said. "Things definitely start to get busier when you come back for the new school year and you really hit the ground running."
Per Baylor tradition, the theme of each act is supposed to remain a secret until the opening night of the show.
"It makes opening night a really fun time when each everyone is able to see what all the groups have been working on," Fader said. "Sing is evolving so much and it really gets bigger every year, so you never know what's going to be put on the stage. The secrecy makes it that much more fun for the Baylor community."
There will be six total performances of the show this year, one each night on Feb. 20, 21 and 22, 27, 28 and March 1. Each performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and range from $22-26 for the public and $20-24 for students. The top eight acts, determined by judges' scores, will perform in Pigskin Revue in the fall semester during Baylor's homecoming weekend.
