WACO, Texas (Nov. 15, 2013) - Baylor Theatre will open its production of "Shipwrecked! - An Entertainment! The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (As Told by Himself)" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, and run through Sunday, Nov. 24, in the Maybee Theatre of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
The family-friendly show is about Victorian showman Louis de Rougemont and his incredible life stories of bravery and survival. According to Baylor Theatre, "Shipwrecked! examines just how far we're willing to blur the line between fact and fiction in order to leave our mark on the world."
Joanna Hughes, a junior theatre performance major, plays de Rougemont's faithful dog Bruno in the show.
"This show is very different because there is one guy who is the narrator and the whole show is based off his personal stories, while the rest of the ensemble play a variety of characters," she said. "Many of the other cast members are always changing characters, but I play one of the most steady characters."
Hughes said performing an animal role has its challenges.
"I thought playing a dog would be so much easier because I didn't have any lines, but it's just as challenging because I have to find ways to connect to the audience while barking and being on all fours for 70 percent of the show," she said.
All Shipwrecked! performances are sold out, but if you haven't gotten a ticket, you're not completely out of luck.
Standing room tickets are available at the box office for $15, and there is a waiting list for each show. According to the Theatre Box Office, four to five tickets are usually returned before each performance.
Hughes said the cast is "thrilled" that all the shows are sold out.
"It's nice to work so hard and have people actually come see the shows," she said. "We are so excited that the Baylor and Waco communities are being so supportive of our department."
The Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center is located at 60 Baylor Avenue. For tickets or more information, contact the box office at (254) 710-1865.
