WACO, Texas (Oct. 31, 2013) --Baylor University's Institute for Family Business will be honoring the 2013 Texas Family Business of the Year award winners and finalists at an awards banquet 6:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center, 1311 S. Fifth Street.

The Texas Family Business of the Year awards program recognizes outstanding firms whose families demonstrate a commitment to each other and to business continuity, and who are responsive to the needs of their employees, communities and industries.

Prior to the awards banquet, the Institute for Family Business will also host the Family Business Forum from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Bill Daniel Student Center.

In keeping with Baylor's new vision, Pro Futuris, the Texas Family Business of the Year Awards Program established a new award this year recognizing the underlying tenets of Pro Futuris: "that our past is inextricably linked to our future, and that responsibility to God and to the world continues to lead us." The new award will be called the "Stewardship Award," recognizing "the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care." The Stewardship Award is a special recognition award that may not be given every year.

"The Institute for Family Business and Baylor University is privileged to honor great family businesses for the 24th consecutive year," said Bill Worthington, director of the Institute for Family Business. "The applicant pool provided stunning examples of the impact that firm, family, and faith can have on individuals, businesses, and the communities they serve."

This year's winners are:

• Small Family Business of the Year - Graham International, Inc. - Sherman

• Medium Family Business of the Year - Guido Construction Company, Inc. - San Antonio

• Large Family Business of the Year - The Shaddock Companies - Plano

• Community Commitment Award - Global Shop Solutions - The Woodlands

• Family Values Award - Broadway Bank - San Antonio

• Fastest Growing Award - Georgetown Mortgage, LLC - Georgetown

• Well-Managed Award - Miller Ad Agency - Dallas

• Founders Award - The Saucedo Company - El Paso

• Heritage Award - Burleson's Inc. - Waxahachie

• Stewardship Award - All-Star Martial Arts & Fitness Inc. - Cypress

• Stewardship Award - Texas Disposal Systems - Austin

Finalists in the competition are: Bradleys' Inc., Gregory; Lucas Funeral Homes, Hurst; M.L. Leddy's, Fort Worth; Patterson & Associates Insurance Agency, Inc., Richardson; Russell & Smith Automotive Group, Houston and Victoria Advocate, Victoria.

Through the Texas Family Business of the Year program and other activities, the Institute for Family Business fulfills its mission to provide a forum for the development and dissemination of information relevant to the health and continuity of family businesses. Other educational and planning programs available to family business owners through the Institute include special interest seminars and entrepreneurship training classes.
