WACO, Texas (Aug. 30, 2013) - Baylor University will host "OsoSafe," the university's annual Campus Safety Awareness Day from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, during Dr Pepper Hour in Barfield Drawing Room in the Bill Daniel Student Center.

At 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Baylor and the Waco Fire Department will hold a controlled "live burn" demonstration on Fifth Street across from the student center. A mock residence hall room will be intentionally set on fire to demonstrate how quickly a fire can spread in that room setting. (Be aware that the controlled fire will produce heavy, dark smoke, which might concern others around Baylor who are not aware of the live burn.)

Representatives from several university departments and local agencies will be available at Dr Pepper Hour to answer questions and share information about emergency services, health care, fire safety, crime prevention and computer and personal security.

Among the organizations represented include the Waco McLennan Country Public Health District, Waco Fire Department, Waco/McLennan County Emergency Management, Baylor Police Department and Baylor Student Health Services.

"We are very excited to engage students, faculty and staff about the various safety measures available to them through the programs, distinctive knowledge and experience of the various Baylor and local organizations who will join us for OsoSafe," said Leigh Ann Moffett, director of emergency management at Baylor.
