Alumnus and El Paso businessman Paul L. Foster joins University's governing board
WACO, Texas (June 24, 2013) - Baylor University Board of Regents Chairman Richard Willis announced today that Paul L. Foster, BBA '79, Chairman of the Board and Executive Chairman of Western Refining Inc., of El Paso, has been elected to a three-year term on the University's governing board. Foster will begin his service as a Baylor Regent when the board next meets in July.

"Paul is an extraordinarily accomplished entrepreneur and businessman with a long history of generously supporting his alma mater, which he credits for preparing him for professional success. From his lead gift in 2006 to establish the Paul L. Foster Success Center, which enables all Baylor students to develop their full potential, to his recent historic gift of $35 million to support construction of the new Baylor football stadium and the forthcoming Paul L. Foster Campus for Business and Innovation that will house our outstanding Hankamer School of Business, Paul is a passionate advocate for empowering others through a Baylor education. With a profound understanding of Baylor's distinct mission in higher education, he brings a wide range of perspective and expertise to the Baylor Board of Regents as the University continues to move powerfully into the future under our Pro Futuris strategic vision."
Foster and his wife Alejandra are recipients of the Baylor Legacy Award, which is presented to individuals who demonstrate extraordinary service and philanthropy to Baylor. Foster also has been honored for his faithful support of Baylor by the 1845 Society, as well as the Judge R.E.B. Baylor Society of the Baylor University Medallion Fellowship. From 2008-2010, he served on the advisory board of the Hankamer School of Business and is a member of the Baylor Bear Foundation. In 2007, he donated $50 million to help create the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso and also was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to The University of Texas System Board of Regents, where he currently serves as vice chairman.
