BU/Waco Foundation to Kick Off Fundraising Campaign Oct. 10

October 3, 1996

WACO, Texas - The Baylor University/Waco Foundation plans to kick off its 1997 fundraising campaign at noon Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Ferrell Special Events Center with the help of the Rapoport Foundation, the Cooper Foundation and the Waco Foundation. All four foundations have pledged to work together to raise funds for an acoustic shell in Waco Hall.
"This is a historic venture between these foundations in working together to improve Waco Hall," said Bob Senter, acting director of the Baylor/Waco Foundation. "Waco Hall was built in the 1920s by the Waco community to keep Baylor in Waco. Waco Hall is one of the most popular facilities on the Baylor campus."
An acoustic shell is designed to enhance the sound of a stage. By building wall units and a ceiling around the stage, sound is reflected to the audience rather than absorbed into the curtains.
Representatives from the Rapoport, Cooper and Waco Foundations have been invited to attend the luncheon to help launch the fundraising campaign. Additionally, representatives from the Waco Symphony Association, which performs in Waco Hall, have been invited to attend.
Erin Davis, president of the Baylor/Waco Foundation and Division Manager of External Affairs for Southwestern Bell and Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will speak at the luncheon.
The campaign chairman, Scott Salmans, owner of WRS Athletic Club, and Dr. Richard Scott, vice president for university development, will attend the luncheon.
During its 1996 fundraising campaign, the Baylor/Waco Foundation raised approximately $143,000 for the construction of the Baylor Waco Pavilion at Ferrell Field.
