Baylor Theatre Depicts Communist Romania in Mad Forest

WACO, Texas (April 22, 2013) - The department of theatre arts at Baylor University will present Mad Forest April 23 through April 28 in Mabee Theatre of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. Performances through Saturday will begin at 7:30 p.m., with matinees offered on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

In three acts, this play tells the story of the Romanian Revolution in which dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu was overthrown. The first act depicts the struggle of a young Romanian woman who falls in love with an American, bringing criticism and social disapproval upon her family. The next act portrays the five days in December 1989 that ended with the execution of the dictator and his wife. Finally, the third act regards the feelings of Romanians toward other nationalities and their own country following the revolution.

The play is directed by David Jortner, Ph.D., assistant professor of theater arts in Baylor's College of Arts & Sciences.

This production is open to the public and recommended for mature audiences. Admission is $18 for regular tickets and $15 for Baylor students, faculty and staff.
