Baylor's Bella Voce Performs "By, For, and About Women"

WACO, Texas (Feb. 26, 2013) - Baylor University School of Music's women's chamber choir, Bella Voce, will present a concert "By, For, and About Women" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in Roxy Grove Hall located in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave.
Bella Voce is comprised of 34 women and led by Lynne Gackle, Ph.D., associate director of choral ensembles in Baylor's School of Music.
Gackle has conducted All-State choirs in 28 states and has served as president of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Florida and the ACDA's Southern Division. She has written several articles for the Choral Journal and is the author of "Finding Ophelia's Voice, Opening Ophelia's Heart: Nurturing the Adolescent Female Voice," published by Heritage Music Press. Gackle was also awarded Baylor's Outstanding Faculty Award in Research in 2012.
The program will commence with French composer Francis Poulenc's "Litanies of the Black Madonna," written in 1936 in response to the tragic death of his friend, Pierre-Octave Ferroud. Faculty organist Isabelle Demers, Doctorate of Musical Arts, assistant professor of organ in Baylor's School of Music, will be featured in the opening number in addition to a sextet of soloists.
Other featured pieces include Javier Busto's "Salve Regina," Libby Larsen's set of three pieces "Today, This Spring," Gwyneth Walker's "Love Is a Rain of Diamonds" and a few other selected pieces.
