WACO, Texas - Funds donated to Baylor University by a Wichita Falls family are being used to assist family businesses in the Lone Star State.
The funds were donated by the Streich family, Streich Distribution and Leasing Co., Wichita Falls. Several years ago the Streich family endowed the Streich Professorship in Family Business and Succession in Baylor's Hankamer School of Business. This year that endowment is being used to fund visiting lecturers and small firm scholarships to the North Texas Family Business Forum, which is a component of Baylor's Institute for Family Business.
A total of $6,000 will be allocated to fund the Streich Visiting Family Business Lecturer for the North Texas Family Business Forum. An additional $6,500 will be allocated to fund Streich Small Family Firm Scholarships to the North Texas Family Business Forum.
The Streich Visiting Family Business Lecturer funds will be used to bring family business scholars of note to Texas to make presentations to the North Texas Family Business Forum. The first Streich Visiting Family Business Lecturer will be Case-Western University Professor E. J. Poza, keynote speaker at the North Texas Forum's Sept. 19 seminar in Dallas. Bob Hughes, program director for the Institute for Family Business, says, "There are a number of small firms who would benefit from the North Texas Family Business Forum program but who lack the available assets for the tuition. The Streich Small Family Firm Scholarships will be used to defray a portion of that tuition for some of those firms.
"Thanks to the Streich funds, we can provide an even better educational experience to even more firms in North Texas and help them meet the challenges of growth and succession."
