The Leo and Gloriana Parchman Endowed Lecture Series present world-renowned theologian and authority on worship and ecumenism Geoffrey Wainwright, Ph.D.
In his lecture, "Faith, Hope and Love: The Ecumenical Trio of Virtues," Wainwright will speak on how these virtues relate to the unity of the Christian Church, worldwide.
"Baylor University and Truett Seminary are excited to welcome Dr. Geoffrey Wainwright to our campus. Wainwright is a world renowned theologian who has significantly shaped the relationship between worship and doctrine in the Christian Church worldwide, as his work in ecumenism has helped various Christian traditions understand their shared unity in the gospel of Christ," said Brian Brewer, Ph.D., assistant professor of Christian theology at George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
Wainwright serves as Robert Earl Cushman Professor Emeritus of Christian Theology at Duke Divinity School in Durham, N.C. Born in Yorkshire, England, Wainwright studied in Cambridge, Geneva and Rome. An ordained British Methodist minister, he has taught theology at the Protestant Faculty of Theology in Cameroon, West Africa; the Queen's College in Birmingham, England; the Union Theological Seminary in New York; and at Duke since 1983.
The Parchman Endowed lectures bring world-renowned theologians to the Baylor campus enabling George W. Truett Theological Seminary to make a significant contribution to the realm of theological dialog and the life of the church.
Wainwright will lecture at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10. All events are free and open to the public and will be held in the Paul W. Powell Chapel at George W. Truett Theological Seminary, 1100 S. Third St.
