Baylor to Present the Rise and Rise of Daniel Rocket June 26-29

Baylor University's Department of Theatre Arts will present The Rise and Rise of Daniel Rocket at 7:30 p.m. June 26-29 at the Mabee Theatre in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
When the play begins, 12-year-old Daniel Rocket is firmly convinced that he can fly, a belief that causes him to be shunned and ridiculed by his classmates - including the girl he adores and for whose regard he is driven to prove himself. It turns out that Daniel can fly, although he has kept it a secret from everyone including his best friend Richard. When at last, he demonstrates his talents to the others, he straps on wings in deference to everyone's disbelief. From then on, Daniel soars to fame and fortune, and in the second half of the play, which takes place 20 years later, he returns home a renowned celebrity. He has indeed become the symbol of the genius who outdistanced everyone around him. He has returned home, his magical power of flight waning to find what he lost there. In the climax of the play he suffers a fatal crash and on his deathbed realizes what is really important in life.
The Rise and Rise of Daniel Rocket is written by Peter Parnell and directed by Jerry Morrison, a Baylor graduate student.
