WACO, Texas (June 18, 2012)- For students considering a career in marketing, gaining the knowledge, skills and credentials to stand out in a competitive job market is an important component of the collegiate experience. One Baylor student will take advantage of an exclusive opportunity to gain all three beneath the bright lights and high-rises of New York City later this summer.
Taylor Dixon, a junior and double major in marketing and professional selling at Baylor, was recently selected to participate in the Direct Marketing Education Foundation's (DMEF) 2012 Interactive Marketing Immersion Xperience (I-MIX). The program, which selects only 30 students from an international pool of applicants, is designed to give an elite group of collegiate students an edge in the job market by providing them with a foundational understanding of the conceptual and practical application of interactive marketing in industry.
The 2012 I-MIX program will take place from Aug. 6-10 in New York City. Participants will gather for a week-long intensive program to hear presentations from industry leaders and scholars in interactive marketing, engage in group projects with real-world clients and network with corporate executives.
"I am excited to immerse myself in the hustle and bustle of New York completely on my own," Dixon said. "I applied for the 2012 DMEF I-MIX program because I wanted to learn more about marketing, and especially its penetration in markets like New York. I look forward to gaining a better knowledge of the power of marketing and how to use this part of my degree most successfully."
Dixon's selection to the I-MIX program is significant for Baylor, her faculty members and her peers.
"This is an exciting learning opportunity for Taylor and an honor for our marketing department and Baylor to have a representative attend this prestigious program," said Dr. Chris Pullig, associate professor and chair of the marketing department in Baylor's Hankamer School of Business.
In addition to being accepted to the DMEF I-MIX program, Dixon has also found many ways to enrich her experience as a Baylor student. To accompany her double major, she also serves as social media chair for the Baylor chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon and as secretary of the Baylor Women's Lacrosse team.
Dixon is gaining additional hands-on experience this summer working as a social media and public relations intern for Mr. Rooter, one of the seven brand concepts owned by Waco-based service firm, The Dwyer Group. She executes social media initiatives, assists in national and local public relations opportunities and serves the Mr. Rooter's marketing activities.
