More than 450 junior high school students will participate in the annual Junior High Band and Orchestra Camp June 9-15 in the Glennis McCrary Music Building at Baylor University.
The Baylor School of Music annual camp offers one week of intense training in band and orchestra.
Camp students entering grades 7-9 will be involved in large ensemble rehearsals, sectional rehearsals and group lessons. Under the guidance of Baylor faculty, the students will learn basic musicianship skills and techniques particular to each instrument.
In addition, outstanding music teachers, conductors and performers from throughout the state will join the Baylor staff to ensure that students receive the highest quality instruction.
Guest conductors include Paul Crockett, director of bands at Murchison Middle School in Austin; Stephen Shoop, director of bands at Ennis High School in Ennis; Richard Thomas, director of bands at Richland Middle School in Richland Hills; and Jane McCormick, orchestra director at Dulles High School in Sugarland.
The students will perform a final concert at the end of the week at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, in the Jones Concert Hall of the Glennis McCrary Music Building. The concert is free and open to the public.
The cost of the camp is $275, which includes tuition, housing, meals and activities.
