SUMMER SCHOOL FOR RETIRED PERSONS SET FOR MAY 20-24
WACO, Texas - The Baylor University Institute of Gerontological Studies will host the Herbert H. Reynolds Summer School for Retired Persons Monday, May 20-24.
The summer school will consist of a week of classes and interaction with Baylor faculty. Courses will be taught in English, history, theater appreciation, religion, archaeology, computer science, music, geology and home economics.
Those enrolled in the school also will be able to attend concerts on the campus, participate in field trips and stay in the Baylor dormitories.
Some of the featured teachers in this year's summer school will be Dr. Joyce Jones, professor of organ, the Joyce O. Bowden Professor of Music and Organist-in-Residence at Baylor, and Dr. J. Randall O'Brien, associate professor of religion at Baylor.
Jones has performed organ concerts in distinguished locations all over the world including the Mormon Tabernacle, the Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Cadet Chapel at West Point. O'Brien received the Collins Outstanding Professor Award for 1996 in only his fifth year of teaching at Baylor. In 1992, O'Brien was named outstanding Professor by Gamma Beta Phi and, in 1995, was named outstanding Professor by Mortar Board.
