The Baylor University Graduate School will host its annual Army-Baylor Family Day this Saturday prior to the game between No. 25 Baylor and fifth-ranked Oklahoma. The event celebrates 60 years of partnership between Baylor University and the United States Department of Defense.

About 200 students from Fort Sam Houston - accompanied by U.S. Navy Commander Todd Sander and Dr. David Mangelsdorff, a professor at Fort Sam Houston - will be participating in the event. Sander and Mangelsdorff will be honored at halftime by Baylor President Ken Starr and Dr. Larry Lyon, dean of the Graduate School. Activities begin at 4:30 p.m. in Snickers Touchdown Alley outside Floyd Casey Stadium.

Since 1951, Baylor and the U.S. military have partnered to offer advance degrees in health sciences for active duty personnel. Baylor currently offers seven nationally-recognized programs, including Physical Therapy (No. 5, U.S.News & World Report) and Healthcare Management (No. 11, U.S.News & World Report). Upon graduation, students provide healthcare and treatment to military families, veterans and soldiers in combat zones.

Lt. Col. Lee Bewley, Ph.D., a Baylor professor in the Army-Baylor program in health and business administration (MHA/MBA), is currently deployed in Iraq. Bewley was recently profiled in the November issue of the Wacoan magazine.

"Baylor University is thankful to America's men and women in uniform," Starr said. "And we are extremely proud of the long-standing Army-Baylor tradition that seeks to serve the increasingly important healthcare field."

Baylor Athletics will honor Army-Baylor with a special message at halftime from quarterback Robert Griffin. Griffin, a graduate student at Baylor, also is the child of a military family.

In addition, Baylor's Graduate Student Association, in collaboration with the Division of Student Life, will host the second annual Tailgate Mixer. Students from the Graduate School along with the graduate and professional students from Truett Seminary, the School of Social Work and Baylor Law School will share in pre-game festivities.
