Baylor Professor to Teach at Christian Coalition Schools

Dr. Richard Chewning, the Harry and Hazel Chavanne Professor of Christian Ethics in Business at Baylor University, will serve as a visiting professor at a number of schools nationwide that are members of the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities.
Chewning will teach at the schools during the fall semester for the next eight years, beginning this year. The schools will include Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.; Cedarville College, Cedarville, Ohio; Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa.; Seattle Pacific University, Seattle, Wash.; Mount Vernon Nazarene College, Mount Vernon, Ohio; Northwestern College, St. Paul, Minn.; and LeTourneau University, Longview, Texas, where Chewning is a member of the board of trustees. He and his wife, Shirley, will spend four months at each school.
The Baylor professor will offer a semester-long seminar at each school, for administrators and faculty, titled "Associating Scripture With The Academic Disciplines." He says the participants will engage 10 areas of inquiry, one of them being to identify the "natural world and life view presuppositions" that govern the secular teaching and research associated with their academic disciplines and to examine these presuppositions in the light of Biblical presuppositions that apply to the same issues.
In addition, Chewning says, the undergraduate students will also be offered a course titled, "Applied Biblical Ethics," which examines the intellectual credibility of a Biblical world. He adds, "The work will encompass a normative view of Christian ethics and an operative dimension that will examine the visible ethics, or its lack, in current events and issues."
