Sculptural Works of Dianne Reeves to Open Jan. 23

A sculptural exhibit displaying the talents of artist Dianne Reeves will open Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Martin Museum of Art in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the campus of Baylor University.
Reeves is an Austin artist. She received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Glaffel School of Art, affiliated with the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. She is originally from Milwaukee, Wis.
The exhibit will feature 21 of her pieces, "ranging from very religious to politically correct," said Dr. Heidi Hornik, assistant professor of art history. "A lot of what goes on in her life comes out in her art."
According to Hornik, common themes running through Reeves' work include "base roots of culture: lifestyles, rituals, beliefs and survival methods."
The medium Reeves employs is a base of all-natural paper made herself using various raw materials, which she shapes to form her creations. "Paper responds by shaping the image for which it was intended; pieces culminate in image and surface," Reeves said.
The exhibit will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday during regular gallery hours. Additional hours are scheduled during evening and matinee performances of Baylor Theatre and other programs presented in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
