Pillars: A Celebration of Senior Adults, hosted by George W. Truett Theological Seminary, will be held Tuesday, May 24, through Thursday, May 26, as a time to reflect on the importance of senior citizens in the community.
More than 70 participants are expected to attend the event. Registration ended May 1.
The three-day conference is meant to emphasize the Baylor University and George W. Truett Theological Seminary motto of Pro Ecclesia, Pro Texana, "for the church, for Texas." Through this event, Truett hopes to bring seniors together.
"The intent of the conference is to build relationships between senior adults and the Truett community - faculty, staff and students - and to provide a retreat time for seniors that is both educational and enjoyable," said Jan Cason, financial manager of the dean's office in Truett Seminary.
Conference participants can expect worship, seminars, campus tours and Dr Pepper floats during the event. Each day will serve as a reminder of the pillars in Independence, Texas, the birthplace and original location of Baylor University, that stand as a reminder of Baylor's heritage and traditions. Pillars also represent the role of seniors in their communities.
"Comments from last year's evaluation sheets confirm that the attendees had a very positive experience, appreciated the information received in the breakouts and the main sessions, loved the organ concert and enjoyed being on the Baylor campus," Cason stated.
