Baylor University's School of Music will welcome Gloria Gaither, a Grammy award-winning songwriter, to speak on behalf of the Hearn Innovators in Christian Music Series.

Gaither will lecture at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in Waco Hall's Recital Hall II on the Baylor campus. The event is free and open to the public.

"Gloria Gaither is a legend in Christian music circles," said Dr. Randall Bradley, director of the Center for Christian Music Studies. "She and her husband, Bill Gaither, have written hundreds of songs that have impacted churches for over 40 years."

The Gaithers have produced more than 700 songs, hundreds of recordings, numerous awards, a dozen musicals and a collection of books. They have been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum and were named ASCAP Songwriters of the Century.

Hearn Innovators in Christian Music Series is in its third year and hosts presenters who are active in the practice, creation or study of church music. The presenters are on campus for three to four days and are available to speak in classes, visit with students and lecture.

"The goal of the series is to inspire students to be innovators themselves and to create venues where Baylor students can interact with people who are impacting the field of Christian music," Bradley said.
