Christmas Tree Lighting to Feature Paul Overstreet on Nov. 30

WACO, Texas-Baylor University welcomes back Christian music artist Paul Overstreet at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the north of Fountain Mall for the 30th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Overstreet first appeared at Baylor on Aug. 26 during Welcome Week.
Overstreet will perform a set of his own music and will sing some original Christmas songs. He also plans to perform some traditional Christmas songs.
Overstreet's performance will follow the lighting of a 35-foot Christmas tree, decorated with red bows and white lights, and a 10-15 minute Christmas message delivered by inspirational speaker Joe White, president of Kanakuk Kamps, a Christian camp for young children in Branson, Mo.
The Christmas tree lighting is free and open to the public, but viewers are encouraged to donate a toy for "Toys for Tots." The ceremony is sponsored by the Kappa Omega Tau service fraternity. The fraternity will sell $20 commemorative sweat-shirts and donated the proceeds to "Toys for Tots."
"We enjoy it a lot and we do it for the kids," said Adam Todd, Kappa Omega Tau Christmas tree chairman. "This is a Christmas event for Baylor students organized by Baylor students, and it helps Waco children."
"Toys for Tots" is a national charity sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps. During the 1994 Christmas tree lighting ceremony, gifts valued at approximately $3,000 were donated to "Toys for Tots."
The tree was donated by a Kappa Omega Tau alumnus, whose family owns a Christmas tree farm in Corsicana.
