Baylor Department of Religion Welcomes Rhodes College Professor

Dr. Steven McKenzie, professor of the Hebrew Bible and Old Testament at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., will lecture on "Prophecy with Profanity: The Dynastic Oracles in the Books of Kings" at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, in Miller Chapel of the Tidwell Bible Building on the Baylor University campus.

The event, hosted by the Baylor department of religion, is free and open to the public.

McKenzie received his bachelor's degree and master's of divinity from Abilene Christian University before receiving his doctorate of theology from Harvard University. His interests include: the history of ancient Israel, the literature of the Hebrew Bible, the Hebrew language, the Dead Sea Scrolls, methods of biblical interpretation and archeology.

He has written and edited many books, including "King David: A Biography and How to Read the Bible," and he is coauthor of "The Uncensored Bible: The Bawdy and Naughty Bits of the Good Book." He also is past president of the board of governors of the Institute of Egyptian Art and Archaeology at the University of Memphis, and co-leader of the Middle East Travel Seminar, which tours Syria, Jordan, the Sinai, Israel and Greece each spring.
