Baylor University will pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., beginning Sunday, Jan. 16, with a candlelight march from Speight Plaza to Miller Chapel at 5:30 p.m. and a worship service at 6 p.m. at Miller Chapel in the Tidwell Bible Building on the Baylor campus.
The Rev. Jimmy Hunter, pastor at Toliver Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, will lead the service, "Martin Luther King Jr.: Remembering the Visionary, Living into the Dream." A reception will follow at the Bobo Spiritual Life Center.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is hosted by the Baylor School of Social Work, George W. Truett Theological Seminary and Baylor's department of religion.
Miller Chapel is at 600 Speight Ave. and the Bobo Spiritual Life Center is at 500 Speight Ave.

Baylor President and First Lady Ken and Alice Starr will dedicate Baylor's Community Garden, at Ninth Street and Bagby Avenue, as part of an MLK Day of Service at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17.
The event is part of the National Campus Kitchens Project for the National Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 17, for which the Campus Kitchens Project (CKP) at Baylor University has been selected as one of 20 campus programs across the country to receive a grant.
The public is invited to attend and participate in gardening, art, nutrition and reflection activities between noon and 3 p.m.

The Baylor Department of Multicultural Affairs will host a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., luncheon and keynote speaker at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, on the fifth floor of Cashion Academic Center.
Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert, assistant professor of Homiletics at the Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, D.C., will speak on: "Where Do We Go From Here? Chaos or Community," the title of King's last book.
Gilbert will talk about how to honor King not by deifying him but by making his vision of a "beloved community" a reality. He will characterize King as a prophet, priest and sage and discuss how to love and act to create such a community.
Gilbert received his bachelor's degree from Baylor and both his master's of divinity and doctoral degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J. He is an ordained Baptist minister with 15 years of parish and non-parish pastoral experience. He has served congregations in Texas, New York, New Jersey and Kenya.

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Baylor University administrative offices will be closed, and no classes will be held on Monday, Jan. 17.
The Mayborn Museum Complex will be open on MLK Day during normal hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Moody Memorial Library and Jesse H. Jones Library will be open from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday and closed Monday. The Armstrong Browning Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday. The Texas Collection will be closed Saturday through Monday.
The McLane Student Life Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. to midnight on Sunday and Monday. The pharmacy will be closed Sunday and Monday.
The Baylor Bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
The Bill Daniel Student Center will close at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, and reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
The Wiethorn Visitors Center will be closed Sunday and Monday.
Residence halls will remain open all weekend.
