Baylor University will welcome several distinguished speakers and performers to campus this spring. Below is a list of the lectures, conferences, symposia, and performances that will be held during January at Baylor.

Lyceum Series Concert with José Díaz
Jan. 18, 7:30 p. m., Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building
José Antonio Díaz is in his twenty-third year as director of the MacArthur High School Jazz Ensemble in Houston. He leads this concert by students from the Díaz Music Institute, of which he is the founder and artistic director. This Lyceum Series event is free of charge and open to the public. Martin Museum of Art Spring Exhibitions
Jan. 18 - Feb. 26, Martin Museum of Art Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center
The Martin Museum of Art at Baylor will feature an exhibit in ceramics by Phillip Ahnen in Gallery I. This exhibition explores Ahnen's fascination with industrial mechanized objects, and addresses his "form follows function" mantra that guided the development of functional work during his apprenticeship with a master potter. Gallery II will include works by three prominent printmakers. Assistant professor of art and the printmaking area coordinator for the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas, Andrew DeCaen, has shown his prints, drawings, and paper sculptures both in the United States and internationally. Dennis Olsen, a professor of printmaking, drawing, and digital media at the University of Texas at San Antonio and President of the SRISA Board of Directors, will be presenting a series of intaglio-type prints called Samplings. Kent Rush, who teaches at the University of Texas at San Antonio, will present images on film from urban and suburban sites and using carbon printing.
Presidential Symposium Series: Baruch A. Brody

Baruch A. Brody is the Leon Jaworski Professor of Biomedical Ethics and director of the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine. He is also the Andrew Mellon Professor of Humanities at Rice University. He has been appointed Distinguished Service Professor at BCM, the college's highest faculty honor, and also has been awarded the Michael E. DeBakey Award for outstanding research. He will speak on ethics in the twenty-first century as part of the Presidential Symposium Series in honor of Judge Ken Starr's first year as president of the University.
Department of Religion Lecture

Dr. Sidnie White Crawford, Willa Cather professor and chair of classics and religious studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln will speak on "What the Dead Sea Scrolls Teach Us About the Bible." Baylor Concerto Competition

Lecture by Uwe M. Lang
Jan. 25, 7:30 - 9 p. m., Barfield Drawing Room in the Bill Daniels Student Center
Fr. Uwe Michael Lang will give a presentation entitled "Heart Speaks to Heart: John Henry Newman as a Reader of the Church Fathers." John Henry Newman is perhaps the most important Christian intellectual of the nineteenth century and Fr. Lang, who is a member of the religious order that Newman joined, is uniquely qualified to discuss Newman's genius. Fr. Lang is the Coordinator of the Master's program in "Architecture, Sacred Art and Liturgy" at the Universita Europea di Roma/Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum and staff member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments at the Vatican.
