Walt Whitman Expert to Speak at Baylor Nov. 3

Dr. Donald Kummings, chair of the English Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, will deliver the annual American Studies Lecture at 10 a.m. and a poetry reading at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, in Room 101 of Carroll Science Hall at Baylor University.
Kummings is the author of "Walt Whitman, 1940-1975: A Reference Guide" and "Approaches to Teaching Whitman's Leaves of Grass." Other works he has authored include a collection of poems titled "The Open Road Trip" which was awarded the Posner Poetry Prize by the Council for Wisconsin Writers.
Currently Kummings is co-authoring "The Walt Whitman Encyclopedia" with Baylor's Dr. J.R. LeMaster, professor of English and director of the American Studies Program. Though Kummings is known for his works on Whitman, he has published studies on other great poets including Nathaniel Hawthorne, Alexis de Tocqueville and Henry James.
