Baylor Geology Colloquium Series to Feature UT Geology Professor

Dr. James Gardner, associate professor in the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas in Austin, will speak at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in room E231 of the Baylor Sciences Building on the Baylor University campus.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of the Baylor department of geology's colloquium series offered every semester.

Gardner will speak on "Explosive Volcanic Eruptions Through an Experimental Point of View." He will discuss examples of experiments conducted on silicate melts and illustrate how those results can lead to better insights into volcanic eruptions.

Gardner received his bachelor's degree in geology from Southern Methodist University in 1985, a master's degree in geology from Washington State University in 1987 and a doctoral degree in volcanology and geological oceanography from the University of Rhode Island in 1993.

Gardner has taught at the University of Texas since 2003.
