Dean of Honors College to Lecture on Christian Artistic Visions

Dr. Thomas Hibbs, Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Culture and dean of the Honors College at Baylor University, will give the first of three lectures in the Community Lecture Series at 6 p.m. Oct. 14, in the SBC Theater of the Mayborn Museum.

Hibbs lecture will focus on, "Hope in Exile: The Christian Artistic Visions of Rouault and Fujimura."

Hibbs' lecture was chosen to coincide with and introduce the exhibition currently at the Mayborn Museum. The exhibition will showcase Rouault's Miserere and Chagall's Bible Series at the Mayborn Museum, while Fujimura's Soliloquies, influenced by Rouault's collection, are on exhibit from Oct. 19- Nov. 13 at the Martin Museum of Art in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.

"I hope the audience leaves with a greater appreciation for the calling of the Christian artist in the modern world and perhaps an increased appreciation for the role of beauty in the Christian life," Hibbs said.

This lecture is free to the public; however seating is limited.
