Baylor University will welcome its newest class of students to campus for their orientation sessions beginning June 15. The two-day event offers new students the opportunity to meet with academic advisors to plan their college experience, register for fall semester classes, meet other new students and have their questions answered by orientation staff.
Orientation will begin June 15-16 with a session for transfer students. Incoming freshmen will begin their orientation June 16-17, with sessions every two days through July 1-2. If students are unable to attend in June or July, there will be a one-day orientation Aug. 18.
The first day of orientation begins with check-in at 8 a.m. in Waco Hall. If students arrive after 10:30 a.m., they will be able to check in at the student center lounge in the Hankamer School of Business. Parking is available at the Speight Plaza Parking Garage.
After check-in, day one of orientation will begin with a welcome session at 9 a.m. in Waco Hall. Other activities during the day will include taking placement tests, visiting residence halls, exploring the class schedule, having student IDs made, participating in interest groups on such issues as finances and community opportunities, and arranging access to Baylor's technology resources. Students and parents also can take a trolley tour of campus and enjoy a Dr Pepper float break at 2:30 p.m. on the first day of each orientation session.
Day two will begin with small group meetings to learn specific degree requirements for majors and will include an academic advisement appointment for each student to select and register for classes. Students also will receive information about campus safety and academic support services, and can take part in various interest sessions on dining services, study abroad programs, libraries and much more.
