Baylor University Welcomes Distinguished Professor for Lecture

Dr. Calvin O. Schrag will give a lecture on "The Communicative Turn in the Dynamics of Philosophical Discourse" at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in the Hankamer Treasure Room in the Armstrong Browning Library located at 701 Speight Ave.

A reception will follow in Old Main 109 located at 1411 S. 5th St.

Schrag, George Ade Distinguished Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., is the author of more than 15 books and edited collections as well as several journal articles and book chapters. Schrag has influenced not only the philosophical community but the communities of rhetoric, communication studies, liberation theology, literary theory and education.

Schrag earned his doctoral degree at Harvard and was a founding member of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, the oldest and most active association of philosophers in America.

His most well-known contribution to the philosophical community is his invention of the concepts "the fitting response" and "the transversal practice of rationality."
