Baylor University students will lead "Be the Change: Missions Week," from Saturday, Sept. 25 to Wednesday, Sept. 29. The annual five-day event will take an intentional look at how God is working around the world.

This year's emphasis will be on urban and community ministry with keynote speaker, Bart Campolo, pastor of The Walnut Hills Fellowship in Cincinnati. Last year the event reached more than 7,000 students.

"The hope and goal of this conference is to make students aware of the mission of God, being called to live incarnationally no matter where in life or where we happen to be. This means that as a student we can be missionaries, that we can live a life that is missional right here in Waco," said Heather Mustain, ministry associate for missions awareness at Baylor University's Office of Spiritual Life.

The event will kickoff Saturday night with a benefit concert, featuring Hailey Wilshire and Ty Mayfield at Common Grounds from 8 to 10 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go to the Waco Arts Initiative.

During the week there will be breakout sessions, chapel services, mission fairs, a Vertical Worship night, a Q&A session with Campolo, a campus-wide prayer event, and service projects that wrap up Missions Week on Wednesday.

In addition to Campolo, guest speakers attending the conference include:

Kirsten Dickerson, co-founder of Raven and Lily
Becky Kennedy, associate chaplain and director of missions at Baylor University
Edward Simiyu, founder and senior pastor of City Harvest Ministries
Joell Beagle, coordinator for missions in the Office of Spiritual Life at Baylor University
Angel Pittman, director of development and volunteers at Touching Miami with Love
Jeremy Everett, director of the Texas Hunger Initiative
Brenda Sanders, missions mobilizer at the Baptist General Convention of Texas
Greg Smith, co-founder and administrative coordinator for LUCHA ministries
Valda Jean Combs, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church of Waco, Texas
Susan Cowley, founding member of CrossTies
Jimmy Dorrell, co-founder of Mission Waco and pastor of Church Under the Bridge
Michael Stroope, professor at Baylor University's Truett Seminary
Sherry Castello, volunteer coordinator and kitchen manager for Gospel Café in Waco, Texas

"We invite local, domestic and international mission practitioners to campus this week and share their experiences with us about how they are living incarnationally in their ministries. This also allows students an opportunity to get involved in different ministries," said Mustain.

The event is open to Waco and Central Texas communities and is free to attend.
