Summer Sculpture Exhibit To Open June 1
An exhibition showcasing recent sculptures by artist Greg Reuter, professor of sculpture at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, will run at Baylor University's Art Gallery at the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center from June 1 through July 24. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The show will feature 62 works, made up of sculptures, wall sculptures and frottages--a type of drawing using rubbed graphite. The sculptures are made from a variety of materials, such as plaster, bronze and ceramics.
"The cast bronze pieces are intriguing," said Robbie Barber, Baylor sculpture professor. "They are inspired from the artist's trips to the Padre Island National Seashore. Using sand as his canvas, he literally takes mold impressions of found textures and crab burrows. These are then cast in bronze."
Reuter has taught at Texas A&M Corpus Christi since 1978. He earned a master's in fine arts degree from the University of Hawaii. He works have been exhibited at the MB Modern Gallery New York, University of Hawaii at Manou Art Gallery and the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, to name a few. His sculptures also can be found at City Hall and at the Greenwood Library in Corpus Christi and at the Church of the Resurrection in Sunnyvale, Calif.
The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
