On May 17 underneath the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Baylor University sophomores Chad Anderson and Drew Mitchell began their quest to bicycle across the United States to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas.
Their journey, called Bike America 2K4, will take the business majors 3,700 miles through California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Virginia. They hope to complete their trip in mid-July in Yorktown, Va.
The students are working with the Baylor Alumni Association to locate Baylor graduates to provide the riders with support and lodging if needed along their route. Anderson and Mitchell also are keeping everyone up-to-date on Bike America 2K4 by writing an online journal for Baylor's news and events web site and sending photos from the road.
The students' goal is to raise $37,840 - or $10 a mile - for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas. For more information or to donate, go to Bike America 2K4.
