Reception for President Robert B. Sloan Jr. Set for Aug. 27
WACO, Texas-A community reception for Baylor University President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, in the Brazos Room of the Waco Convention Center. It will be the first opportunity for the Waco community to meet President Sloan.
The reception is free and open to Waco and the surrounding community. Refreshments will be provided, and the event will be informal.
Sponsored by Baylor University, the reception will be co-hosted by several local leaders in business, education, medicine, religion and politics.
Born on Feb. 7, 1949, in Coleman, Texas, Sloan became the 12th president of the University on June 1. Sloan previously served as dean of The George W. Truett Theological Seminary, professor of religion and The George W. Truett Professor of Evangelism. He received a Doktor der Theologie from the University of Basel, Switzerland, and conducted post-baccalaureate research at the University of Bristol, England. He also received a master of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a bachelor's degree from Baylor.
Sloan also served as an instructor in theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth and as an adjunct instructor in Old Testament and New Testament survey courses at Hardin-Simmons University.
Sloan married the former Sue Collier of Cisco, Texas, a Baylor graduate who holds a bachelor's degree, in 1970. The couple have seven children, who range in age from 8 to 20 years old. The oldest daughter, Charissa, graduated from Baylor in August and will attend graduate school at Baylor.
