Baylor's Renaissance Scholars Program Brings High School Students to Campus

From Plato and Augustine, through Pascal, Shakespeare and Leonardo da Vinci, and on up to Einstein, the greatest thinkers have bridged the gap between the sciences and the humanities, technology and art, philosophy and theology.
With that in mind, Baylor University's esteemed Honors College and nationally acclaimed School of Engineering and Computer Science have partnered to offer soon-to-be high school seniors an integrated introduction to topics in engineering and technology with complementary readings in history, art, literature, philosophy and theology.

The Renaissance Scholar Program was created to give high-achieving high school juniors the opportunity to engage academically with Baylor faculty, students and staff while earning college credit in the summer. Dozens of high school students are coming from all over the nation and seeking unique academic challenges during their summer vacation.

Three sessions of Renaissance Scholars are being held at Baylor this year. Program dates are:
' Sunday, June 6, 2010 through Saturday, June 12, 2010
' Sunday, June 13, 2010 through Saturday, June 19, 2010
' Sunday, June 20, 2010 through Saturday, June 26, 2010

"This program exposes students to engineering, computer science and great text, and the exposure helps the students figure out what they would like to major in before attending college full-time," said Adam Ecklund, director of student initiatives in Baylor's School of Engineering and Computer Science. "Everyone that comes to this program will be touched in some way by Baylor's faith and tradition."
