FGA Stone Symposium Brings Scientists From Around the World to Baylor

The FGA Stone Symposium highlighting the career of Dr. F. Gordon A. Stone, Robert A. Welch Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Baylor University, will be held at 8 a.m., Thursday, May 27, and at 8 a.m. Friday, May 28, in the Baylor Sciences Building in Room E 125.

Featured speakers include Malcolm Green, University of Oxford, Dr. Fred Hawthorne, University of Missouri, Dr. Tony Hill, Research School of Chemistry, Australian National University, Dr. Sheldon G. Shore, Ohio State University, Dr. Judith A. K. Howard, University of Durham, Dr. Malcolm Chisholm, Ohio State University, Larry F. Dahl, University of Wisconsin, Peter Maitlis, University of Sheffield, Ian Manners, University of Bristol, Dr. R. Bruce King, University of Georgia, Dr. Alan Cowley, University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Marcetta Darensbourg, Texas A & M University, Dr. John Fackler, Texas A & M University and Dr. Patrick J. Farmer, Baylor University.

Stone has mentored students from around the world who have earned doctorates under his supervision. Stone has more than 900 publications to his credit.

He obtained his bachelor's and doctorate degrees from Cambridge University. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Southern California and was an assistant professor at Harvard University. Stone also was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship.

The banquet, with support from the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27, on the fifth floor of the Cashion Academic Center in the Hankamer School of Business.
