Baylor To Sponsor Drawing Contest For Local Children
Baylor University will sponsor a Bush Library drawing contest for McLennan County elementary school students from April 30 through May 11. The Baylor Ambassadors, a student organization assisting with the Bush Library effort, is overseeing the contest. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade can draw their own design of the Bush Presidential Library or a scene from the life of President George W. Bush, such as the president with his dogs, playing baseball or in the Oval Office. All entries will be delivered to President Bush.
"We want to educate students of McLennan County about the U.S. presidency and generate community support for locating the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Waco," said Kristal Evans, chair of the Ambassadors' Bush Library committee.
Entries will be judged by grade level. Ten finalists will be selected in each grade, with a first- through fourth-place winner in each grade level. Winners will be announced by May 14.
A pizza party with one of Baylor's bears, Joy or Lady, will be held for all finalists at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18. All first- through fourth-place winners will participate in an art workshop conducted by local artists; will be recognized with a certificate presented at a Baylor athletic event; and will have their drawings displayed in the Bill Daniel Student Center on campus. All first-place winners will receive a plaque during a Baylor athletic event.
Drawings must be submitted by 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, to Baylor's office of public affairs and must include the student's name, school, grade level, age and homeroom teacher's name. Each teacher should submit a complete list of students competing in the contest. Entries may not exceed 16 inches by 24 inches.
