Baylor Musicians Will Present Sounds of South America Concert

Conjunto Latinoamericano, a group of 20 faculty members and students from Baylor University's School of Music, will present an evening of tunes from Mexico, Central America, and South America at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in Jones Concert Hall in Glennis McCrary Music Building on Baylor campus.
Conjunto Latinoamericano will be directed by performs under the direction Dr. Alfredo Colman, assistant professor of music history, who also will play the Paraguayan harp on two of the pieces.
Among the exotic instruments to be heard are Paraguayan harps, Peruvian cajones, Cuban congas, Puerto Rican güiros, and Cuban timbales. Other instruments will include piano, flute, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, harp, violin, cello, double bass and vibraphone.
Opening the concert will be "El entrerriano" by Rosendo Mendizábal, "Odeón" by Ernesto Nazareth, "Milonga de mis amores" by Pedro Laurenz, "Los pájaros perdidos" by Astor Piazzolla, and "Llegada" by Félix Pérez Cardozo.
Other pieces will be "Guarania" by Darío Frutos, "Tres de Mayo" by José del Rosario Diarte, "Resurgir" by César Cataldo, "Mi despedida" by Félix Pérez Cardozo and (with soprano Seung-Hyun Lee, Visiting Lecturer in Voice) "Galopera" by Mauricio Cardozo Ocampo.
The program will close with "Goza mi mambo" by Orestes López, "Guajira en azul" by Eduardo Palmieri, "Dile a Catalina" by Arsenio Rodríguez and "Isla del encanto" by Héctor Lavo.
