Steppin Out' Photo Opportunities April 3

April 2, 2004

by Lori Scott Fogleman

Nearly 3,000 Baylor University students and community volunteers will take part in Baylor's "Steppin' Out" day of service from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at about 100 jobs sites throughout Waco and surrounding areas.
One of the largest college community service projects in the United States, Steppin' Out volunteers will assist local residents, schools, churches and organizations by painting houses, cleaning up yards, doing repair work and much more. Following the day's activities, volunteers will enjoy a "Celebration of Service" back on the Baylor campus, with free t-shirts, food and a concert by Recycled Percussion at Waco Hall.
The mission of the Steppin' Out is to enhance student involvement in community service, while growing community awareness, interaction and collaboration between Baylor and the Waco community. Steppin' Out is frequently used as a foundation for the establishment of community service programs throughout the country.
Tools and supplies for Baylor's Steppin' Out volunteer groups are provided by the Baylor/Waco Foundation, a "hometown" organization that supports projects that enhance the quality of life in Central Texas.
For more information, call the Steppin' Out office at (254) 710-3199. For interviews on Saturday, contact Shelly Anderson, Steppin' Out public relations chair, at mobile (405) 570-0501 or Jessica Truglio, Baylor's coordinator of community service, at mobile (254) 855-2088.
