Baylor Joins Waco Community to Support Low-Income Families

The Baylor University and Waco communities will volunteer side by side to bring low-income parents economic and healthcare benefits and services at the Parent Support Workshop hosted by First Baptist Church of Waco on Saturday, Feb. 27.

At the workshop, participants can apply for food stamps, prescription drug assistance, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children)aid, child support, TANF (welfare), Medicaid, CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) and assistance in resume writing and job training.

"The Parent Support Workshop is a real community-wide effort to empower low-income families and single mothers," said Curt Kruschwitz, George W. Truett Theological Seminary graduate and college minister at First Baptist Waco. "A key part of this effort is Baylor students."

Several organizations from the Waco community, including local nonprofit organizations, government agencies and Waco churches, will join with Baylor students from the School of Social Work, members at First Baptist Waco, the Baylor Spanish department and Truett Seminary.
The workshop, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Activities Center at the First Baptist Church in Waco, Fifth Street and Webster Avenue. Child care will be provided for children ages 3 to 12.
