Baylor's Honors College Hosts Ancient, Modern Philosopher

Dr. Graeme Hunter, a professor of philosophy at the University of Ottawa in Canada, will present his lecture "Tournament of Champions: Pascal Against Philosophy " at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, in the Memorial Drawing Room on the Baylor campus. Baylor's Honors College hosts the lecture series, which features a variety of scholars, authors and public figures throughout the year.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature Hunter discussing Pascal's philosophy focusing on skepticism and dogmatism. Hunter will highlight Pascal's argument of the contradictions within philosophy and his connection to theology.
Hunter received his bachelor's degree from Bishop University in Quebec, Canada, and his doctorate from the University of Toronto in Canada.
The topic of Hunter's lecture was developed through his ancient and modern philosophy research interests focused on Plato, Cicero, Spinoza, Leibniz, Descartes, Kant, Arnauld, Hobbes and Pascal. The results of his interests inspired Hunter to write several publications, including Cicero's Neglected Argument from Design, Radical Protestantism in Spinoza's Thought and Blaise Pascal.
