People's Law School Makes Legal Matters Understandable

The People's Law School at Baylor University will return for a fifth year from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. Hosted by Baylor Law School, the one-day, free event is designed to make the law "user friendly" and to educate members of the community about their legal rights.
"The law can sometimes be confusing," said Patricia Wilson, professor of law at Baylor. "The People's Law School will not answer every question for every specific situation, but it can help you get a grasp on some fundamentals that may help you in your day-to-day personal and business life."
The People's Law School offers 14 courses on a variety of legal topics. The courses focus on useful issues such as consumer rights, small businesses, landlord/tenant rights, retirement planning, wills, elder law, employment law, and family law. In addition to the courses, the first 80 attendees will receive a copy of the book Know Your Rights, written by consumer law expert Richard Alderman.
A new course added this year is "Law: Fact vs. Fiction" that examines how authentic is Hollywood's presentation of the law in television and movies. The course will examine video clips from television and movies and discuss the way the law actually works.
Each People's Law course will be taught by a Baylor law professor or a local attorney. Participants can register for three courses, which will last approximately an hour each.
