Journey to the Center of the Uterus, a one-woman comedy by guest artist Kathleen Puls Andrade, a Chicago writer and performer, will be presented at Baylor University's Theatre 11 on Friday, Jan. 15, and Saturday, Jan. 16.
The show has been billed as "a roller coaster ride through the fertility fray with doctors who don't recognize your face, 'supportive' friends who declare 'You'd get pregnant if you weren't so fat!' and adventures in the 'special man room.'"
In the interactive show, Puls Andrade uses wacky characters, animation, interviews with men and women from 35 to 85 and funny inventive music to lead audiences through her own experience with infertility. The 60-minute show is designed to make the audience laugh while giving them perspective on the conception conundrum.
Award-winning actor/director Andrew Eninger will direct. Music is by award-winning composer Marshall Stern, who crafted original songs for the show, including Stupid Things People Say.
Baylor Theatre Department Chair Stan Denman said that "after almost 30 years of friendship with Kathleen Puls Andrade, I still think of her as one of the funniest people I have ever known. Witnessing her stigmatizing and heartbreaking struggle with infertility has been sobering, educational, and ultimately inspiring as she has handled probing doctors, insensitive strangers, and well-meaning friends with wit, grit, and amazing grace.
"Kathleen's Journey to the Center of the Uterus: Adventures Infertility is as funny and irreverent as a Saturday Night Live skit and as sensitive and honest as a conversation with a trusted friend. This hilarious and touching production is for anyone who has struggled with infertility or knows someone who has. In other words, it is for all of us."
